bennettheadshotTroy R. Bennett is a Buxton native and longtime Portland resident whose photojournalism has appeared in media outlets all over the world. A 2010 Maine Press Association Journalist of the Year nominee, Bennett has earned nearly 30 awards and counting for his photography and multimedia journalism from the Associated Press, New England Newspaper & Press Association and MPA.

In 2007, Bennett became the first photographer to sit on the Maine Press Association board of directors since its inception in 1864. Previous to joining the Bangor Daily News, he worked at The Times Record in Brunswick, and years ago, he launched his photojournalism career in Portland as the photo editor for the University of Southern Maine’s student newspaper, The Free Press.

A true historian of the craft, Bennett has learned the 19thcentury art of wet plate collodion photography, the process by which tintypes and ambrotypes are made. He is also a well-known folk musician who has played for audiences across the country, a motorcycle enthusiast and a Boston Red Sox fan.
